Well, one of my photographs was accepted. I am stunned given the volume and quality of the work that was submitted. Because the photos will be printed in large format for the show Digital Arts Studio, (Barry Gustaff) will have to examine each one for resolution requirements. I have my fingers crossed; it was a 22MB Tiff file so it should be OK, but you never know.
The title of this photo is Forster, hopefully prompting the viewer to think of EM Forster's Room with a View. It was meaningful to me back in 1986 when my little brother Wade died. This image is like an anchor point for me. It reminds me to remember gifts.
In Room with a Viewas in most of Forster's novels there is an underlying theme being expressed as the story of external events and circumstances being the catalyst that forces the main characters to a spiritual/emotional breaking point. A choice point where the path of blind retreat has been utterly destroyed, and the only available step forward is fearfully contradictory to every belief they have held dear about themselves and the world. It is the last second of the dark night of the soul; just before the dawning of awareness they may finally allow themselves to have a Room With A View. What had been held valuable and dear is now just as valueless as it had always been. What was perceived as valueless before is recognized as having been ever-present and, until now, rejected.

I just left the opening of In Your Dreams. OMG, there were some terrific photographers on view. Ted Maloof had an exquisite image, as expected. I can't even begin to comprehend how he got so much detail in an almost totally black image of a flower. Exquisite is the only word that comes close to describing it. It was so impressive I can still see it in my mind; like the tune you are humming after seeing a great musical production.
Many many thanks to everyone who sent me emails or phone calls of congratulations this last week; and special thanks to Dotty, Jim, Rhonda, Amon, Florry and Krista for coming to the show.
About 20 minutes into the event a very kind person came up to me to tell me she overheard "others" talking about me and she thought I would want to know. This being my first ever photo exhibit my first thought was "somebody liked my photo"! She then helped me remove an adhesive sticker from the rear right left leg of my new jeans; it was the waist size sticker. I am 2 days into a yard sale at my house and all my jeans were either dirty or hidden so I rushed out to buy a new pair for the event. It is so hard not taking yourself too seriously; it is a good thing I have lots of help. As my good friend Pat Birdsall would say, "oh well.."

Found out today that the three images I submitted to Mountain Arts Association were accepted and will be included in the exhibit opening July 17 at Brasstown Valley Resort in Young Harris. A couple of my dad's paintings will be included also. This photo was shot Memorial Day this year and is one of the images admitted. The Theme of the exhibit is broad, just "Summer". It will be up through November 8th.
